Occasional fussiness is seldom a reason for concern. But for some babies, constant fussiness may indicate a food sensitivity. Symptoms such as excessive fussiness, spit-up or gas may be signs of sensitivity to the protein found in milk-based formulas.
For common problems like these, doctors often recommend a soy formula, such as Isomil Soy Formula With Iron. It is milk-free and lactose-free and provides complete, balanced nutrition for the full first year. And Isomil provides 65% greater calcium absorption than the other leading brand.
There Is a Difference
Your baby's body does not produce calcium-it's supplied entirely by the diet. Calcium is especially important during times of rapid growth, such as during infancy. If you've chosen to feed formula, here's something else you might want to know about calcium.
Isomil and Enfamil® ProSobee®* contain the same amount of calcium (105 mg per 100 Calories). But, in a clinical study, babies fed Isomil absorbed 65% more calcium than when they were fed ProSobee.
What Might Affect Calcium Absorption?
Clinical studies suggest that a formula's oil blend may affect calcium absorption. Studies measuring absorption have not been conducted on all formulas containing palm or palm olein oil. However, evidence from the studies that have been conducted suggests that the use of these oils in a formula results in less calcium absorption than when other oils are used.
Isomil Soy Formula With Iron and Similac With Iron, as well as all other Ross infant formulas, are made from a blend of vegetable oils with no palm or palm olein oil. Some other soy formulas, such as Enfamil ProSobee, Carnation? Alsoy® and Parents' Choice® Soy, use palm or palm olein oil as the predominant fat.
You have a choice when it comes to infant formula. Check the label of your baby's formula to see if palm or palm olein oil is listed as an ingredient (see chart below). Then, ask your health care professional about Isomil.
